Gordon C. Alling, Jr., PE, President

Gordon Alling is a licensed Professional Engineer with more than thirty years experience in a broad range of engineering activities, focused largely on thermal and electromechanical systems. His activities include:

Product and System Design

Heating, Ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for commercial and residential buildings
Refrigeration systems for unique applications such as individual personnel cooling, solar-powered refrigeration and a dedicated beer keg cooler
Military shelters, including the current Modular General Purpose Tent System
A variety of electromechanical products ranging from exercise to medical equipment

Analysis

Consumer product failure analysis to support product liability litigation
Feasibility analysis of new product technologies
Comparison of alternate technologies for new product applications

Technical Documentation and Logistics Support

Military technical manuals based on MIL-STD 40051 and other US Government specifications
Maintenance and logistics documentation including MAC, RPSTL, PSPL, PPL, Safety Assessment Report and other Government-required documentation
Commercial maintenance and repair documentation
Test plans, procedures and test reports to assess specification conformance

Mr. Alling is licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia and State of Maryland. He holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Lori Mattson, Chairman

Lori Mattson provides overall direction for company activities and financial management. Additionally, she provides critical review, both in content and form, for most of acumen’s publications and technical writing assignments.

She is a biologist and an educator, by trade, with more than 20 years experience instructing individuals from middle school through adults. She has taught courses ranging from biology to computer programming and desktop applications. In addition to providing strategic direction for acumen, she draws on her wealth of educational experience to enhance acumen’s technical writing products and training curricula. She has provided critical review, both in content and form, for most of acumen’s publications since the company was formed.

Ms. Mattson received her BA in Biology from the University of Virginia and her MEd, with an emphasis in Curriculum Development, from the University of Maryland.
